La Orquesta Kalamares is a small band with a big sound! It is the smallest Salsa/Latin orchestra in Ireland, but don’t be fooled by the size of the band; coming out of the fertile musical ground of Galway in the west of Ireland with its vibrant Latino community, in 2013 the band started with the challenge to compress the full sound of a large sized Salsa band into a compact 3-piece combo made up by highly skilled and talented musicians: Barbara Vulso (Italy) on main vocals and small percussion, Alan Preims (Italy) on percussion (congas, timbal, bongos, cajon, clave and bells) and backing vocals and Antonio Aguilar (Mexico) on piano, bass and vocals.
The band soon put together an extensive repertoire, a winning combination of original songs and own arrangements of very popular songs, embracing different styles of Latin music: Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, Rumba, Kizomba, Cha Cha Cha, Cumbia.
The songs are performed in a variety of languages (Spanish, English, Italian and French), making the music of La Orquesta Kalamares very accessible to wide audience.
